Island Recycling

MODIFY A SERVICE REPORT AND CREATE A Chart

Project Goal

M Project Name

Project Goal

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The small island community of Fir Island off the Washington coast, is justifiably proud of its recycling facility. Built entirely through the efforts of a band of dedicated volunteers, Island Recycling is committed to providing a convenient and welcoming location on Fir Island for the drop-off and distribution of recycled materials. Island Recycling is run by a non-profit society (Fir Island Recycling Society or F.I.R.S.) that manages the recycling facility, schedules volunteers, liaises with the local municipality, and sells recycled materials to companies located on the mainland. All revenues produced from the sale of recycled materials are invested back into Island Recycling. You are on the Board of the Fir Island Recycling Society and have volunteered to put together a spreadsheet to analyze the past year of activities at F.I.R.S. You have already inputted data about the recycling activities into Excel. Now you need to format the worksheet, use formulas and functions to analyze the data, and create charts to display selected data.

GETTING STARTED

· Download the following file from the SAM website:

· SC_Excel2013_CS_C1-3_P1a_FirstLastName_1.xlsx

· Open the file you just downloaded and save it with the name:

· SC_Excel2013_CS_C1-3_P1a_FirstLastName_2.xlsx

· Hint: If you do not see the .xlsx file extension in the Save file dialog box, do not type it. Excel will add the file extension for you automatically.

· With the file SC_Excel2013_CS_C1-3_P1a_FirstLastName_2.xlsx still open, ensure that your first and last name is displayed in cell B6 of the Documentation sheet. If cell B6 does not display your name, delete the file and download a new copy from the SAM website.

PROJECT STEPS

Open the Statistics worksheet. Modify the column widths and row heights as described below:

a. Use AutoFit Column Width to change the width of column A to make all the contents visible.

b. Change the row height of Row 1 to 48.00 points.

c. Change the widths of columns B through M to 10.00 characters.

In cell A1, apply the formatting options described below:

d. Change the font to Arial Black font and a font size of 24 pt.

e. Change the font color to Turquoise, Accent 3, Darker 50% (7th column, 6th row in the Theme Colors palette).

f. Change the fill color of the cell to Turquoise, Accent 3, Lighter 80% (7th column, 2nd row in the Theme Colors palette).

Merge and center the contents of cells A2:M2 and then apply the Heading 2 cell style to the merged cells. Format the merged cells with the Long Date Number format.

Enter the contents in bold shown in Table 1 below into the range

Format the cells in the range C5:F5 with the Currency Number format with 2 decimal places.

Apply the following formatting options, as described below:

a. Bold and Center the content of cell B4.

b. Use Format Painter to apply the formatting of cell B4 to the range C4:F4.

c. Merge the contents of cells B4:B5.

d. Apply the All Borders border style to the range B4:F5.

Move the content of cell E6 to cell E7 and then apply the formatting options described below:

a. Merge and center the cells E7:G7

b. Apply the fill color Blue, Accent 2, Lighter 60% (6th column, 3rd row in the Theme Colors palette) to the merged cells.

Use the January label in cell B8 to fill the range C8:M8 with the months of the year.

In cell B13, use the SUM function to total the values in the range B9:B12. Use the Fill handle to copy the formula from B13 into the range C13:M13.

Perform a Goal Seek Analysis to determine the number of bins of Plastic containers/bags (cell B10) needed in January to change the value in cell B13 to 100. (Hint: Cell B10 will be the changing cell.) Keep the results of the Goal Seek Analysis as the new value for cell B10.

In cell B14, use the keyboard to enter a formula that multiplies the value in cell B9 (the number of returnable bottles) by the value in cell C5 (the value of each returnable bottle) Use an absolute cell reference to cell C5 and a relative reference to cell B9. Copy the formula from cell B14 to the range C14:M14.

Calculate the revenue for the remaining three recyclables (Plastics, Mixed Paper, and Glass) as described below. Remember to use absolute references to the cells in the range D5:F5 in the formulas.

g. In cell B15, enter a formula that multiples the value in cell B10 by the value in cell D5. Copy the formula from B15 to the range C15:M15.

h. In cell B16, enter a formula that multiples the value in cell B11 by the value in cell E5. Copy the formula from B16 to the range C16:M16.

i. In cell B17, enter a formula that multiples the value in cell B12 by the value in cell F5. Copy that formula from B17 to the range C17:M17.

Format the values in the range B9:M13 with the Comma Style Number format, decrease the number of decimal places to 1. Format the range B14:M18 with the Accounting Number format and 2 decimal places.

Apply a new conditional formatting rule to the range B18:M18. The rule should format cells with a values greater than $4,000 with Standard Light Green fill color (5th column of the Standard Colors palette) and Standard Dark Blue font color (9th column of the Standard Colors palette).

In cell B21, use the AVERAGE function to calculate the average monthly revenue generated for the range B14:B17. Copy the formula from cell B21 to the range C21:M21.

In cell B22, use the MAX function to calculate which value in the range B14:B17 is the largest. Copy the formula from cell B22 to the range C22:M22.

In cell B23, use the MIN function to calculate which value in the range B14:B17 is the smallest. Copy the formula from cell B23 to the range C23:M23.

In cell B24, use the IF function to check whether the value of cell B21 is greater than 1000.

a. If this condition is true, the cell value should be set to Good. (Tip: For the value if true, use “Good”)

b. If this condition is false, the cell value should be set to Poor. (Tip: For the value if false, use “Poor”)

Copy the formula created in cell B24 to the range C24:M24

In cell B26, create Column Sparklines from the data in the range H12:J12, and then change the style of the Sparklines to Sparkline Style Accent 3, (no dark or light) (3rd column, 3rd row of the Sparkline Style gallery).

Check the Spelling in the workbook to identify and correct any spelling errors. (Hint: You should find and correct at least 2 spelling errors.)

Format the worksheet for printing as described below:

a. Change the orientation to Landscape.

b. Change the worksheet margins to Narrow.

c. Insert a header in the Center section with the text Island Recycling 2016 Statistics.

d. Set the print area as the range A4:M26.

e. Scale the worksheet so that it prints on one page.

Create a 3-D pie chart from the non-adjacent ranges B8:M8 and B18:M18. Move the chart you just created to its own chart sheet. Use Revenue by Month Chart as the name of the new chart sheet.

Format the 3-D Pie chart with the following options:

a. Change the chart title to Revenue by Month.

b. Select the Chart Style 6.

c. Add data labels using the Data Callout positioning option.

d. Remove the legend from the chart.

Switch back to Statistics. Use the Recommended Chart tool to create a Clustered Column chart based on the range A8:D12. Move the chart to its own chart sheet. Use the name Quarter 1 Chart as the name of the new chart sheet.

Format the Clustered Column chart with the following options:

a. Change the chart title to Bins collected in Quarter 1.

b. Add Number of Bins as the Primary Vertical Axis Title

c. Add Months in Quarter 1 as the Primary Horizontal Axis Title

Go to the Volunteer Educators worksheet and make the following formatting changes:

a. Rotate the labels in the range B3:B14 by 45 degrees.

b. Use the entries in the range A3:A4 to fill the range A5:A14 with the number series from 3 to 12.

c. Copy the range C3:C5, then paste it into the ranges C6:C8 and C12:C14. Use the paste option that pastes the values, but not the cell formatting.

d. Remove the fill color from the range C3:C5.

In the Recycling Companies worksheet, select cell B3 and use the Freeze pane option to freeze the rows and columns to the left and above cell B3, respectively. Zoom out on the Recycling Companies worksheet to 60%.

Select Statistics, Recycling Companies, and Volunteer Educators worksheets and then change the color of the sheet tabs to Turquoise, Accent 3 (7th column, 1st row in the Theme Colors palette).

Your workbook should look like the Final Figures below and on the following page. Save your changes, close the workbook, and exit Excel. Follow the directions on the SAM website to submit your completed project.

· With the file SC_Excel2013_C3_P1a_FirstLastName_2.xlsx still open, ensure that your first and last name is displayed in cell B6 of the Documentation sheet. If cell B6 does not display your name, delete the file and download a new copy from the SAM website.

PROJECT STEPS

Move the sheet 4 May 2015 Revenue Detail to the left of the sheet 11 May 2015 Revenue Detail.

On the 4 May 2015 Revenue Detail sheet, freeze rows 1 through 3. (Hint: Select cell A4 as the cell on which to freeze panes.)

Delete column M.

Create a Line Sparkline in cell L5 based on the data in B5:J5. Copy the Line Sparkline you create in cell L5 into the range L6:L11.

In the stacked column chart with the title Revenue Per Dispatch Center, add a primary horizontal axis title of Dispatch Center and a primary vertical axis title of Revenue.

Change the style of the stacked column chart to Chart Style 3 (3rd column, 1st row of the Chart Styles palette).

In the stacked column chart, change the number format of the vertical axis to Accounting style with 0 decimal places.

In the 3-D pie chart titled Share of Total Revenue, add data labels to this chart using the Outside End style.

Switch to the 11 May 2015 Revenue Detail sheet. Select the range A4:K4 and rotate the text to 45 degrees.

Change the Sparkline style for the range L5:L11 to Sparkline Style Accent 6, (no dark or light).

Use the entry in cell A5 to fill the range A6:A11 with consecutive dates.

Change the fill color of the range A12:K12 to Standard Yellow (4th column in the Standard Colors palette).

Use the Recommended Charts tool to create a Clustered Column chart based on the range A4:J11. Move the chart to its own chart sheet. Use 11 May 2015 Revenue Chart as the name of the new chart sheet.

In the clustered column chart created in step 13, change the chart title to Revenue per Dispatch Center – Week of May 11, 2015. Add a primary horizontal axis title of Dispatch Center and a primary vertical axis title of Revenue.

In the clustered column chart, change the number format of the vertical axis to the Accounting style with 0 decimal places. (Tip: The vertical axis will already be formatted with the Accounting style, so only change the number of decimal points displayed.)

Switch to the 2016 Revenue Projection sheet. Edit the formula in cell C7 so that the reference to cell C4 is an absolute reference. Copy the formula in cell C7 to the range C8:C11.

Perform a goal seek analysis to determine what value of cell C4 would result in the Citywide Total Annual Revenue (cell C12) equaling $60,000,000. (Tip: Cell C4 will be the changing cell.) Keep the result of the goal seek analysis as the new value for cell C4.

Zoom the 2016 Revenue Projection sheet to 150%

Switch to the Credit Card Transactions sheet. In cell B11, use an IF function to check whether the value of cell B9 is less than 70000.

a. If this condition is true, the function should multiply cell B9 by 0.03. (Tip: For the value if true, use B9*0.03)

b. If this condition is false, the function should multiply the value in cell B9 by 0.025 and then add 350. (Tip: For the value if false, use B9*0.025+350)

Copy the formula you entered in cell B11 to the range C11:D11.

Your workbook should look like the Final Figures on the following pages. (The value in cell C4 generated by the goal seek analysis has intentionally been blurred out in Final Figure 4.) Save your changes, close the workbook, and exit Excel. Follow the directions on the SAM website to submit your completed project.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Simone Kisawa works in the accounting department of Flex Cab Company, a taxi service in Toronto, Ontario. Simone has created a revenue detail report for the week of April 13, 2015. She would like you to complete the report by adding formatting and calculations.

GETTING STARTED

· Download the following file from the SAM website:

· SC_Excel2013_C2_P1a_FirstLastName_1.xlsx

· Open the file you just downloaded and save it with the name:

· SC_Excel2013_C2_P1a_FirstLastName_2.xlsx

· Hint: If you do not see the .xlsx file extension in the Save file dialog box, do not type it. Excel will add the file extension for you automatically.

· With the file SC_Excel2013_C2_P1a_FirstLastName_2.xlsx still open, ensure that your first and last name is displayed in cell B6 of the Documentation sheet. If cell B6 does not display your name, delete the file and download a new copy from the SAM website.

PROJECT STEPS

1. Switch to worksheet Sheet1 and, in cell B13, use the SUM function to total the values in the range B6:B12.

2. Using the fill handles, transfer the formula you just created in cell B13 to all the cells in the range C13:J13.

3. In cell B14, use the AVERAGE function to determine the average daily income for the range B6:B12. Using the fill handle, transfer the formula you just created in cell B14 to all the cells in the range C14:K14.

4. In cell B15, use the MAX function to determine the maximum daily income for the range B6:B12. Copy the formula you just created in cell B15 to the range C15:K15.

5. In cell B16, use the MIN function to determine the minimum daily income for the range B6:B12. Copy the formula you just created in cell B16 to the range C16:K16.

6. Format the range B7:K12 with the Comma Style Number format with two decimal places.

7. Format the range B6:K6 with the Accounting Number format with two decimals places. Also format the range B13:K13 with the Accounting Number format with two decimal places. (Hint: Your number format should use the $ symbol with no special regional formatting options like $ English (United States).)

8. Format the range A6:A12 with the Short Date (like 4/13/2015) Number format.

9. Center the contents of cells in the range A5:K5.

10. Change the fill color of the range A13:K13 to Standard Yellow (4th column in the Standard Colors palette).

11. Apply a Top and Thick Bottom Border cell border to the range A13:K13.

12. Change the width of Column A to 32.00.

13. In cell B23, create a formula without using a function that subtracts the value of B22 (Dispatch Center 1’s total revenue for the previous week) from the value of cell B13 (Dispatch Center 1’s total revenue for the current week.) Copy the formula you created in cell B23 to the range C23:K23.

14.

In cell B24, create a formula without using a function that divides the value in B23 (weekly change in revenue) by the value in cell B22 (revenue for the previous week). Copy the formula you created in cell B24 to the range C24:K24.

15. Format the range B24:K24 with the Percentage Number format with two decimal places.

16. Apply a new conditional formatting rule to the range B24:K24. The rule should format cells with a cell value less than 0 with a Standard Orange fill color (3rd column, 7th row in the Background Color palette).

17. Change the orientation of the worksheet to Landscape.

18. Change the name of the worksheet to Revenue Detail.

Your workbook should look like the Final Figure on the following page. Save your changes, close the workbook, and exit Excel. Follow the directions on the SAM website to submit your completed project.

Comparing three Mars rovers

Mars is not easy to reach or explore. Nearly two-thirds of all missions have failed. However, in recent years, the United States has had more success landing rovers. Of recent missions, two rovers essentially crash-landed in a cocoon of airbags and one soft-landed.

The next missions were the twin rovers Spirit and Opportunity, which were launched a few weeks apart and landed on opposite sides of the planet in the summer of 2003, also using airbag technology. They both were the size of golf carts and outlasted their scheduled missions many times over.

Curiosity landed in August 2012 and is the largest and most ambitious rover. The size and mass of a Mini Cooper, it survived a complex soft landing. Curiosity also supports the most complex science, containing drills, lasers, and a small analytical laboratory.

Curiosity can communicate with Earth in three ways. First, Curiosity can engage in direct communication from the rover to Earth’s Deep Space Network. Second, Curiosity can use a fast relay via the orbiting Mars Odyssey spacecraft. Finally, Curiosity can utilize a slow relay to communicate via the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter.

The sceintific missions have focused on whether Mars once harbored flowing water. Specifically, the science studies Martian geology to determine how the rocks and soils formed. Based on how they form on Earth, many Martian discoveries appear to have followed a similar path, such as a long exposure to water or geology formed by intense heat and water.

NASA has engaged in a few popular public relations efforts with the rover missions. One has been to invite students to name its rovers by submitting a short essay. Each naming invitation generates over 10,000 entries. Recent winners are listed below.

Sojourner, submitted by a 12-year-old boy

Spirit and Opportunity, submitted by a 9-year-old girl

Curiosity, submitted by a 12-year-old girl

The winner was also invited to see the launch.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Your professor in Planetary Science has asked you to research Mars rovers and how NASA encourages public interest in Mars exploration. You will write a short paper using the MLA format. To credit your sources, you will include a Works Cited page at the end.

GETTING STARTED

· Download the following file from the SAM website:

· SC_Word2013_C2_P1a_FirstLastName_1 x

· Open the file you just downloaded and save it with the name:

· SC_Word2013_C2_P1a_FirstLastName_2 x

· Hint: If you do not see the x file extension in the Save file dialog box, do not type it. Word will add the file extension for you automatically.

· With the file SC_Word2013_C2_P1a_FirstLastName_2 x still open, ensure that your first and last name is displayed in the footer. If the footer does not display your name, delete the file and download a new copy from the SAM website.

PROJECT STEPS

1. Modify the document’s Normal style by changing its font to Times New Roman, font size to 12 pt., and line spacing to double with no blank space after paragraphs.

2. Select all of the text in the document and apply the Normal style to it.

3. Insert a header:

a. Insert a blank header at the top of the page.

b. Right-align the blank paragraph in the header.

c. Type the text Desai, press the SPACEBAR, and then insert a Plain Number page number from the Current Position gallery.

d. Close the header view.

4. Center-align the title paragraph “Comparing three Mars rovers” and then change the case to Capitalize Each Word.

5. Select the body paragraphs starting with “Mars is not easy…” and ending with “NASA has engaged…” and create a First Line indent at 0.5”.

6. Move the insertion point to the end of the sentence “Of recent missions…one soft-landed.” Press the ENTER key to begin a new line and then type a new body paragraph with the following text:

The first lander, Sojourner, part of the Mars Pathfinder mission, was about the size of a milk crate and weighed 33 pounds. It landed using airbags on July 4, 1997, and stayed active 10 times longer than scheduled.

(Hint: Italicize the name of the rover, but do not bold the body text.)

7. Change the Citations & Bibliography Style of the document to MLA Seventh Edition.

8. Find the phrase “…using airbag technology” in the third body paragraph. Move the insertion point before the period in that sentence and insert a citation using the source information shown in Figure 1 below.
