SO(2):
An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors
· PI-2.c: Use a methodical process to develop and evaluate feasible solutions against specifications/requirements with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors.
· PI-2.d: Select a solution considering risks, constraints and making appropriate trade-offs
Questions: | Earned Points | Max. points |
Question 1 | 50 | |
Question 2 | 50 | |
Total grade | 100 |
1. [50 points – PI-2.c] Generate three potential solutions for your design.
· Show how each solution meets the requirements of your design.
· List the materials and components that you will probably use in each of your solutions.
· Discuss the main advantages and disadvantages of each solution
2. [50 points – PI-2.d]
· List and analyze the different tradeoffs/compromises in each of your solutions
· Using The Decision Making Matrix, select the best solution for your design following your predefined requirements and criteria, while considering risks, constraints and making appropriate trade-offs. Defend your choice.
Please note that 10% of the grade of each question will be deducted for poor English writing and unorganized deliverable.
Please note that the supervisors have the right to ask you questions on the submitted deliverables; grades can be affected according to your answers.
Grades will be deducted for late submissions.

PI2c | Use a methodical process to develop and evaluate feasible solutions against specifications/requirements with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors. | Unable to produce solutions that meet the specified needs and the considerations. | Only a single solution of the problem is discovered that partially meets the specified needs and the considerations. | Obtain more than one solution that meet the needs, however, not all solutions meet the specified needs or the consideration. | Obtain a number of solutions that meet the specified needs and the considerations. |
PI2d | Select a solution by considering risks and making appropriate trade-offs. | Unable to perform analysis nor to select a solution. | Partially analyze the different solutions, but not able to provide a solid method on how to select a solution. | Analyze the different solutions, and provide a clear methodology on how to select a solution. | Successfully analyze and evaluate all solutions. Select the optimum one. Use the insights and the gained knowledge to re-assess the design. |
