1: Training is essential for any career and plays a significant role in successful career growth. It involves providing specific information and skills to listeners to help them perform a particular job or task more effectively (Beebe & Mottet, 2013). Training sessions can be conducted in various ways, such as small classroom settings, webinars, or conferences.
When creating a training session, it is crucial to have a well-organized plan and layout for the sessions. This includes defining the learning objectives, clarifying key topics and related concepts, organizing the material, planning presentation techniques, including evaluation, and focusing on timing (Mind Tools Content Team, 2024).
Adult learners are more self-directed and want to be responsible for their educational path. Effective strategies for adult learners include keeping the lessons relevant by incorporating real-world filters, focusing on the learners’ life experiences, and telling stories while teaching (Cobb, 2023).
student 2: Training is similar to any presentation. It is a special type of informative speaking through which the trainer seeks to develop specific skills in listeners to help them perform a specific job or task more effectively. Training that does not address a trainee’s needs or specific job functions is not effective. (Beebe & Mottet, 2013, p. 330). So, for training, there are many suggestions, but I will state two. The first one is clear objectives: Clearly define the learning objectives at the beginning of the training session to provide participants with a clear understanding of what they will learn and accomplish. The second thing is interactive discussions: Encourage active participation and discussion among participants to facilitate knowledge sharing and peer learning.
How are adult learners different than other students?
Your audience would not be the same all the time. If your audience consists of adult listeners, you will need to ensure that you deliver your message in the way that adults learn best. (Beebe & Mottet, 2013, p. 327). Adult learners differ from other students in several ways. Let me give you two. First: in self-directed learning; adult learners are often more self-directed and motivated, preferring to take control of their learning process and focus on topics that are relevant to their personal or professional goals. Second: immediate application, adult learners typically prefer learning content that they can immediately apply to their work or personal lives, making real-world relevance an essential aspect of effective training.
What should be done to make information relevant to the adult learner? You can address real-world challenges, meaning to present information in the context of real-world challenges or scenarios that adult learners may encounter in their daily lives or professional roles. And also, connect to prior knowledge.
