This week covered the challenges of “breaking news” delivery. It is important to consider these
challenges as we “expect the unexpected” so that we can become more prepared to cover
breaking news before it happens.
Reflect on a time when you were tuned in to a major event being covered by the news media.
Perhaps it was a major disaster, a terrorist attack, a political event, or a scandal.
Respond to the following in a minimum of 175 words:
Describe the event and explain your reaction to the information shared by the news
outlet. Analyze how you think your perception of this event was shaped by the way it was
presented. Discuss some of the best methods to prevent inaccuracy, confusion, or anger from
an audience as you report a breaking news event. How do these methods develop a
relationship of trust and loyalty for future coverage of breaking news?
