Prior to writing the four (4) page MLA styled essay (+ title page), consider the following:
It is important to situate the reality of locations and the implication of spatial usage as it is imagine for audiences around the world as most Hollywood films have global reach.
How do the works created by Hollywood film industry affect the perceptions of audiences regarding Chicana/o and Mexicans in urban space?
Movie palaces (i.e., fancy film theaters) were create to produce the effect of grandiosity. That such enormous wealth would be brought into local neighborhoods for everyone to see “moving pictures” has been a key ingredient in generating propaganda that promotes popular culture in order to generate false ideas about actual culture.
Why would anyone spend their money to view films in which the storyline and visual elements denigrate their culture? Why would anyone stand in line and sit in the dark so that an industry can insult and ridicule one’s own culture?
How is it that billions of people are willing to be entertained by viewing millions of still images only to imagine that the pictures are actually moving?
Some Hollywood films employ several thousand people in order to arrive at the end product. Very few Latinos and even less amount of Chicana/os are employed in this process. Why would industry be certain not to employ a particular ethnic group especially one that makes up the majority population of California?
Take into consideration the instructor’s lectures regarding Chicana/o Arts, space, surveillance, the economy, and social/political/environmental concerns.
Take into consideration the online readings and videos presented here as well as those that have been presented to you during the entire semester.
Be certain to utilize many of your new vocabulary words when writing the essay.
