• Reward Folly Assignment: students will be able to identify a reward folly, analyze its
ineffectiveness, and propose a solution.
Step 1: read the article Rewarding A While Hoping for B to familiarize yourself with what a
reward folly is and why they are detrimental
Step 2: Identify a reward/motivation folly in your organization or industry – this could be a
present or past experience. Analyze the following:

What’s done – what is the reward folly? State the folly and then explain it.

Why is it ineffective? Provide details, examples, relate to course concepts.

What can be done to improve the system? Suggest a revamped reward system
and proposed change: be specific and where possible, relate to the following 6
determinates of Organizational Behavior
▪ Increase: productivity, job satisfaction, OCB
▪ Decrease: absenteeism, turnover, DWB
▪ Integrate course concepts
Step 3: Practice and prepare for your presentation. You will present to your discussion groups
and they will represent the decision makers in that organization.
