Paper Topic Ideas
1. My first topic I would like to create a research paper about would be about the impact of
Greek styles architecture in American history. My paper would not only discuss why
there are particular buildings modeled after Greek architecture, but it could also discuss
the impact?
My second topic would be Greek Mythology in modern American media. Why is there
Greek Mythology in American culture? What are the impacts that these stories have upon
our society? What are the benefits of learning about these mythologies in literature and in
schools?
2. I would like to do my research paper topic on Greece’s entry into NATO.
3. After looking at Greece’s geographical characteristics I would like to explore the market
of tourism-since 2014 was a record year for visitors. I want to look into the cost-benefit
analysis to tourism in Greece and how the market contributes to the state via economic,
political, and social/cultural impacts.
4. For my paper, I would like to explore the roles of women involved in the National
Liberation Front Axis resistance during World War II. Specifically, how did women
become involved in the EAM? What were their roles and how integral were they to the
resistance?
5. How has the Greek legal system evolved throughout the years?
6. I am still up in the air about my paper topic, but was wondering if you can point me in the
right direction. So far I have interest towards the women during the Roman Empire.
Some ideas are how the women were treated and viewed specifically during the Roman
Empire as compared to the Etruscans, or how Roman women were viewed by others. Any
help will be appreciated.
7. This paper will illustrate the Jewish Holocaust, 1939-1945, specifically the occupation of
Italy and Nazi Germany in Greece. It will illustrate why young Jewish men did not leave
Greece during this occupation. This paper will also discuss the Nazi Final Solution and
the atrocities experience by the Greeks during this occupation.
8. For my research paper I plan to explore Greek architecture in the United States. I am
particularly interested in how did this movement develop and who is mainly responsible.
9. I want to discuss the ownership dispute of the Elgin Marbles and research who really
benefits from having it and each side’s reason why it belongs to them. I plan on exploring
how the Elgin Marbles impact on the cultural economies of both. How would it really
benefit Greece if they received it back? Would it make a difference? What proof does
Brittain have that they “took it with permission” instead of taking it by conquest? This
past spring Greece ruled out on suing Britain for the Elgin Marbles.
10. For my paper I was hoping to do an analysis of the human toll that the fall of
Constantinople caused. I would hope to find translated primary sources of personal
accounts of what it was like to be in, or around, the city at the time of the battle. What
were the repercussions caused by the fall of Constantinople for the citizens, and how did
life change for those who survived the ordeal?
11. For my research topic I was thinking of looking at either British involvement during the
Greek Civil War or British involvement during Ottoman occupation in Greece. I was
going to see how much information I could find first before deciding which of those
would be more appropriate since one is more broad than the other in the length of time it
covers.
12. As for the paper topic, maybe I just need to rephrase my question. My intention isn’t to
link the Olympics as the reason Greece’s economy began to sag but more how they mirror
each other with the over spending and how you can point to the Olympics and say this
compulsive spending is the behavior that lead to the current crisis. What are your
thoughts?? I could also play around with doing just the Olympics under the question
“were hosting the Olympics a bad investment?” or I could do the overall crisis as a “How
did Greece’s economic crisis come about?” and the Olympics could be an example of bad
investment/over spending along with the typical government spending programs that
went overboard.
13. For my research paper I want to talk about the different styles of Greek food. How the
food differs in different regions from the islands to the northern most part of Greece.
How the food has changed over time, and different occupations.
14. I was thinking of doing the Nazi invasion of Crete as my paper topic. I am extremely
interested in World War II and Hitler, so this seems like a topic that would interest me
very much. I also love health and nutrition, so I was also thinking about doing the
Mediterranean diet, where it came from, why it is so good for you, that sort of thing.
15. I’m very interested in the gentlemen’s archaeology that occured in the 19th and 20th
Centuries; such as the work of Sir Arthur Evans did on the island of Crete. I intend to
research the economic and political motives behind the “borrowing” of Greek antiquities,

Centuries; such as the work of Sir Arthur Evans did on the island of Crete. I intend to
research the economic and political motives behind the “borrowing” of Greek antiquities,
and I would also like to look into factors influencing their delayed return. and I would

16. For my paper topic I would like to focus on Greece’s survival during World War II. In
particular the Occupation of Greece and the underground movement. I will start with a
brief introduction into the occupation of Greece, but my main focus will be the
underground movement.
17. My first idea for a paper topic would be: What roles, influences and struggles women
have had within Greece? Focusing on the 20th and 21st centuries. If not my first choice I
would like to write on a completely different subject that you have slightly mentioned in
class already and it would be Greek tourism beginning in the 1980s. For this topic I
would try to take an outside perspective of Greek Tourism.
