Media Coverage

ALL current event assignments must be done in the following way:
1. Include a LINK to your news story at the top of your Current Event submission. Do not put the
link to your current event article in a separate document or at the bottom of your
discussion. Your link should be the complete URL from the published story.
2. The assignment is to discuss the news story you choose. Your discussion of it must
be THOROUGH, with specific details like the names of the people you are referring to.
Your discussion must make clear in the first paragraph what the story is about. (
I always read the articles you link to make sure you covered them adequately and
correctly. But I will NOT read your linked article to find out what it is about if I can’t
understand that from your discussion!) Also, be sure to use appropriate attribution! Do not
plagiarize!.
This assignment should be at least one page in length.
3. Current Events MUST BE U.S. STORIES ABOUT U.S. LAWS.
4. Current Event items must be RECENT events–preferably within the last week or
month, 3 months max–unless there have been new developments in an older,
ongoing story. If your article is not the latest news, you MUST find out if there have been any more recent
developments and update the story.
5. Do not use opinion pieces.
6. Do NOT include your personal opinions in these current event reports.
Stories about media coverage of courts and courts’ management or restriction of media, including
traditional media as well as social media. Also, courts subpoenaing of reporters and the use of
shield
laws.
Do Not just submit any story about any court case–it MUST involve how the media
is covering the case and/or how the court is treating the media.
