Here are some videos to watch about climate change
About your audience and your setting for the assignment
You have applied for an internship in a community organization who hope to empower high school
students to understand the science behind climate change and become powerful advocates. They want
you to interpret the information available and create an infographic that they can hand out to high
school students who are very confused with everything they see and hear on social media. The
confusion is compounded because they are confused about whether climate change is real and
something that they should be concerned with because of all the contradictory information they see.
In addition to making an infographic the internship selection committee wants to see your presentation
skills in how you would present your infographic to high school students.
Your project is three-fold
1) Make an infographic about climate change using the criteria descibed on the next few pages of this
module.
2) Give a very short summary (less than 150 words) on the reverse side of the infographic about climate
change and some recommendations on how to mitigate it (details in the next few pages) . You may want
to use bullets, headings and sub-headings to make your points concisely.
3) Create a 3 minute video script of you trying to convince a high school student that climate change is
real using the infographic and handout you created.
Your infographic should talk about
1- atleast 3 major causes of climate change (with references)
2- 3 ways that we expect climate change to affect South Florida
3- 3 things we can do as individuals to combat climate change and how each of these actions will
help combat climate change

Your job is to make an informative infographic about climate change.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO UPLOAD AN EXISTING INFOGRAPHIC AND CLAIM IT AS YOUR OWN.
Your final project will be two parts
1) Creating an infographic
2) Elevator video speech after presenting the infographic to a high school student (remember you have
2 audiences here – the internship selection panel as well as the high school student you are trying to
influence and you have to do justice to both audiences)
Part A
Instructions for Final Project Infographic portion
Your first task is to make an Infographic
Your project must fit on a sheet of regular Letter paper size (8.5 x 11 in)
1) Your infographic must talk about climate change and discuss
at least 3 major causes of climate change (with references)
3 ways that we expect climate change to affect South Florida
3 things we can do as individuals to combat climate change and how each of these actions will help
combat climate change
2) Give a very short summary (less than 150 words) on the reverse side of the infographic about climate
change risk analysis for South Florida and some recommedations for combating it. You may want to use
bullets, headings and sub-headings to make your points concisely.
Also include all your references on the reverse side.
You must have both “in-text citations” using APA format as well a list of citations (references) at end of
the essay with full details of all the references (sources) you used in researching the content for your
essay. For more details with examples please see https://libguides.williams.edu/citing/apa
If you are using Microsoft Word please turn in two different pages (infographic on page 1 + references
and summary on page 2)
If you are using Microsoft Powerpoints please turn in two different slides (infographic on page 1 +
references and summary on page 2)
You are also welcome to use Canva Just remember to put the infographic on one page and the
references & summary on another page.
Use all your knowledge during the course to showcase climate change and the ramifications for the
intended audience.
Convert your infographic to pdf format to decrease the size of the file before uploading it. If it is too
large, Canvas may refuse to accept the file. We will not grade any assignment that is not uploaded as file
to Canvas.
Requirements:
Created to fit on a 8.5 x 11 in sheet of paper
All content must be within printable margins
Eye-catching and colorful (stick to 2-4 colors please do not go overboard)
Neatly organized to communicate information – into a title and distinct section headings (sub headings)
The main title jumps out at you and clearly communicates what the infographic is about
Use only 2-3 fonts but ensure that you are consistent across all titles, section headings, figures, text etc.
Choose a font that is easy to read (Sans serif fonts are easy on the eyes)
minimum of 1 graph (with citation)
minimum of 4 graphics (with citations)
minimum of 6 facts on the infographic with citations/sources
Facts are supported by graphics and graphs.
Reference sheet analyzes and summarizes the information in the infographic
Size of project must be amenable to upload to Canvas (do not upload file to another location and share
the link. This will not be accepted)
Part B
Just write the script of the video
instructions for Project Video Elevator Speech portion
Your second task is now to present your infographic and talk to a high school student. You are going to
show the committee using a 3 minute video elevator talk about how you will approach and present the
infographic to a high school student and convince them to care about climate change after handing
them the flyer (so remember to reference various parts of the flyer in your elevator talk video)
Remember you have 2 audiences here – the internship selection panel as well as the high school student
you are trying to influence and you have to do justice to both audiences
Why is climate change important?
At least 3 major causes of climate change (with references)
3 ways that we expect climate change to impact South Florida
A one-line summary of what the 1020L online course taught you about climate change.
3 things we can do as individuals to combat climate change and how each of these actions will help
combat climate change. What can the high school student you are trying to reach do to help mitigate
climate change?
Your presentation must be coherent and organized (not all over the place) and you must sound
knowledgeable and convincing.
Final videos should be between around 3 minutes.

Infographic Brainstorming and Planning
This planner is designed to help you develop and design an infographic. Please use the
reflection questions to guide you, answering each question with information as completely as
possible to help design an effective infographic.
SECTION A: RECOGNIZE YOUR AUDIENCE
1. Who is my intended audience that I am trying to reach? Why?
2. What background knowledge does my audience have about my topic?
3. Why is my audience interested in what I have to say? Why is this important to them?
4. What (or what more) do I want my audience to learn about the topics?
5. How can you link their priorities to your topic?
SECTION B: OUTLINE YOUR GOAL(S)
1. What is my overall goal? What I hope to accomplish with the infographic?
2. What would be my audience’s current reaction to my goal?
3. What do I need to do (or show) to help move my audience from where they are towards
my goal?

SECTION C: EXPLORE AND KNOW YOUR SUBJECT
IDENTIFYING AND COLLECTING CONTENT, RELEVANT DATA, RESOURCES AND REFERENCES
1. Remember that you need reliable data sources. List potential sources for data that are
reliable and reputable.
2. Based on your previously stated goal(s), consider what kind of data your audience might
be interested in. What type of data do you need to get your message across?
3. What part of the that data do you want to emphasize?
4. Brainstorm on the best way to present the data to your audience. How can you present
that in a way to help you audience connect and understand the data? Do you need to
make any new graphs/charts/tables or can you cite and use existing ones?
5. How can you effectively convert text to images (visualize how you will layout the
information and the data effectively, with clarity and succinctly to have the greatest
impact)
6. Put down the list of references you want to include in your infographic.
SECTION D: PLAN TO TELL A COMPELLING STORY
1. What is the story I plan to tell my audience?
2. How can I make my message/story relevant to my target audience?
Summarize your story/message to the audience in one sentence (no more than 2 lines)
