needs to be written based on my previous background
I’m Asian. Marginalized groups are a very emerging content in Equity, Diversity and
Inclusion (EDI), so I want to answer questions 3, 4, and 5 from this perspective,
targeting race

political opinions. 3,157 were from underrepresented groups in California and the
United States.
Committed to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion
Therefore, according to the requirements, this statement needs to cover:
1. Combined with the content of UCLA Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), I will tell my
understanding of diversity
2. How well have I created/accomplished diversity in the past
3. How do I plan to devote myself to DIA at UCLA in the future?
Please use the following as an outline
In the first paragraph:
1. Start with a critical thinking/analysis of Diversity
2. In my experience, I gradually realized that we should pay attention to the marginalized
groups – promote the development of diversity
In the second paragraph:
1. Give an example of the challenges I encountered at the time & how to overcome them:
based on your background combined with past experience how to focus on marginalized
groups
I am a member of our school’s Chinese basketball team in my spare time, and I will
also participate in national competitions. So I will also find a professional trainer to train.
My trainer is black and he is a local school coach. But that school was in a black district,
and all the trainees I trained with were also black. I usually take a taxi there, and once the
driver even saw that I was going to a black area and felt unsafe and refused to take it. After
training together for so long, I think everyone is still very serious about the stereotype of
race. Black people are not at all stereotyped.
At the same time, I also think of stereotypes for Asians, such as math must be good,
sports are not good, introverted and not social. Although I have not experienced any racial
discrimination at school, it is a very friendly and diverse environment. But I also feel the
stereotype in myself. Stereotypes with expertise in mathematics will also make people
ignore my efforts behind the scenes. I myself have been fighting against such stereotypes.
These are some of my background experiences. Please rewrite and expand on my
formulation. Because I just brainstormed some ideas. But I don’t fully understand how to
write a diversity statement. So please write according to my background and UCLA’s
requirements.
In the third paragraph:
– UCLA EDI intentionally eliminates all forms of inequality in its university
community and in students’ home communities through an understanding of the
systemic and historical discrimination and marginalization of people from diverse
