Feedback on a Job Application Memorandum

An internal applicant has applied for a job. After interviews for the position you, as the supervisor along with two others supervisors, chose an external candidate for the position. The person who applied is a dependable employee and you want to retain him/her. It is possible that some day they may be able to advance – but you cannot make that a promise. Your job:

Strategy: Create a strategy to deliver the “Bad News” to the employee;

Memo to Employee: You will have to write a memo to formally break the news to the employee. Include:

Script for the Meeting: You will also have a write a “script” as to how you want to break the news to the employee in a face-to-face meeting. Whenever you deliver difficult news it needs to be delivered in private.You can do this in an office setting. Decide if you will sit behind a desk, share coffee, sit across from one another in chairs, etc… Create a moment by moment description.
