The target time for this speech is three and a half
minutes. You have a 45 second “window” on either
side. If the speech is more than 45 seconds too short,
twenty points is deducted from the total score. If the
speech is more than 45 seconds too long, it will be
stopped and graded on the material delivered.
> This is an Informative speech of definition or
description. Try to keep personal opinions and
judgments out.
> The topic area for this speech is a “Non-American
Cultural Activity.” Examples include, but are not
limited to – festivals, myths, politics, ceremonies,
traditions etc. (“Culture” is pretty much anything
humans are involved with).
You must have a typed, correctly formatted outline to
give the professor before speaking. If you don’t have
your outline, you can’t go and a 20 point late penalty
will be assessed for each class session it’s late.
You are allowed three 4×6 notecards for notes (front
and back). When you are finished, give the notecards
to the professor.
Practice your speech. Remember, this is not a class in
reading! Be sure to check the “5 Step Checklist” that’s
on Blackboard.
