Intercultural communication on film
Instructions
Communication theories can sometimes seem a bit abstract when
reading a description of them. In Appendix B, the authors list films that
illustrate specific communication theories. For each film title, the
authors provide the specific theory that they feel the film best
illustrates. For this assignment, you will select one of the films from the
list and explain, with specific examples, how the film illustrates that
theory in action.
To begin this activity, select one of the films listed under the headings
“Intercultural Communication” or “Gender and Communication.” Watch
the film carefully and take notes about character interactions and the
movie’s plot to refer to as you consider how a specific theory is
illustrated in the film.
Assignment Questions
After you have watched the film and
taken notes, answer the following
questions in a well-developed paper of 3
to 4 pages. Be sure to document your
answers with references to specific
scenes from the movie and specific
references to your selected theory.
