Assignment Overview
Catarina Macário has been ranked #6 of women’s soccer Best Of list. She has been hailed as the future of the
U.S. women’s national team, but it looks like the future is here―at least once Macário recovers from an ACL
injury she suffered in early June, which will keep her sidelined for several months.
In her first full season in France’s top flight, she was Lyon’s top scorer, netting 23 goals in 35 matches across all
competitions, including nine goals and two assists in the Champions League. For the U.S. she’s also found her
breakthrough, leading the generational shift that saw the USWNT win the SheBelieves Cup.
She also has started a campaign to encourage women to leave FIFA. Catarina also happens to be a family friend,
as you and she grew up in the same neighborhood. Ms. Westhead is aware of your friendship and has asked you
to write a letter to Catarina asking that she put the campaign on hold until she has a meeting with Ms.
Westhead about how the FIFA organization can better support women. Because Macário is a family friend, you
are writing this letter on behalf of yourself and you will use the Direct Persuasive structure.

This assignment will be graded based on the Professional Writing Standards located in the Table of Contents ->
Learning Modules -> Week 4 area of D2L.

When your file is ready, submit it for grading to the appropriate assignment drop box as indicated below.

Navigate to the Table of Contents -> Learning Modules -> Week 4 area of D2L.
Click on the Direct Persuasive Letter assignment drop box title.
Click on the Add a File button.
Find the file you would like to upload. If you are using the most current version of your internet browser,
you can drag and drop the file into the target area of the Add a File window. You can also use the
Upload button to browse for and select the file you would like to add.
Once you have selected your file(s), click the Add button in the bottom, left corner of the window.
Click on the Submit button to complete the file submission.
Upon successful assignment submission, you will receive a confirmation email.
