Problem: Poverty
Introduction
Attention Getter : Do you know the exact idea of poverty? Do you understand the negative
effect that poverty has on people? Why at this time we are still facing this issue?
Credibility: as a group, we made an extensive research to present accurate information that
will benefit the audience. In addition, we value the life of people to be more comfortable and that’s
why we are thrilled to speak about the important subject of poverty.
Central Idea: Poverty is a continuous cycle that ruins a chance of a peaceful life for many
generations
Body
STEP I. Identify and Define the Problem
According to the World Bank, 9.2% of people struggle with poverty, representing 689 million
people worldwide. Poverty is the state of one who lacks the usual acceptable amount of money and
possessions of material that exists when people lack basic needs to survive. Unfortunately, it is the
reality that many people face this problem worldwide; it harms them physically, mentally, and
emotionally that it stresses them each moment of their life to wonder if they can survive tomorrow.
There are many reasons for poverty to occur, such as corruption of the country’s leaders or the
limited number of resources put into helping the country’s people. This problem is an ongoing issue
for many centuries and it is terrifyingly increasing over time that the word poverty is advancing to a
worse case of extreme poverty. The problem of poverty affects many individuals and family
members around the world and the struggle can last a lifetime. Even with many people,
organizations, and countries working together to help people struggling with poverty, the problem is
a global issue that is still on the rise. As we, the team members, are very interested in the problem of
poverty as it threatens many people’s lives and how to help lessen the struggles. To be more specific,
we are concerned about how to reduce the issue of poverty that many people face?
STEP II. Analyze the Problem (the difficulty)
At this moment, poverty is a problem prevailing in the economies of all countries in
the world. On both small and large scale, some evidence of poverty is visible in the global
community (Hossain et al. 166, 174). At any moment, there is someone somewhere who is
going to bed hungry or does not have shelter. This problem is affecting everyone without

choosing. A street child is in a poor town somewhere, settling to drink water from rain
runoffs in the street while a rich man in his mansion is on the verge of a complete financial
crisis. Poverty is becoming a global crisis, and there is an urgency to come up with viable
solutions.
There are many reasons that result in poverty; however, the biggest catalysts are our
inability to work together as humanity. Many communities are sitting on rich natural
resources, but they remain to be poor due to a lack of awareness (Nkonya et al. 70, 101).
Besides, these people lack education which would have given them the knowledge needed to
exploit their natural resources. The poor people expect help from the rich through donations
and grunts to survive the next day.
Poverty, especially in developing countries, has been an ongoing problem since
colonialism. The colonizers of these poor countries took advantage of their natural resources,
made themselves wealthy, and left them in worse states than they found them (Sautman 243,
265). However, there have been attempts by the first world countries to offer assistance to the
poor ones and their citizens through organizations such as USAID.
STEP III – Generate Creative Solutions
Many solutions are a reason to solve poverty or reduce this problem. First of all, not
obtaining an educational qualification is one reason for poverty because there is not sufficient
knowledge to get a job. Therefore, the government must ensure public schools’ provision to allow all
social classes to obtain an education and an educational certificate. Aside from charitable societies,
charities are an excellent solution to help poverty, to reduce poverty. Still, I do not think that it is an
effective solution because the association will not be a basic income for the poor, but it will be a
reason to help poverty to reduce. Besides, the lack of marriage under the legal age, one of the most
widespread poverty globally, is childbearing at a young age. The mother and father are not qualified
to support his family because of their young age. The responsibility of children is a reason for
leaving their studies, and here begins the problem of poverty and the lack of any income in the life of
the family. In addition, the state must pay a salary to every family with low or no income and
provide jobs that allow those without a job qualification to work. The problem of poverty is ancient
and eternal, but I think with development, the world has become interested in this problem and is
looking for a solution. The chart below contains various solutions that will help in reducing the
problem of poverty.

All the solutions in the table above are efficient and can help to solve the problem, but we
have to eliminate the other solution to choose the most effective one to help stop poverty. The four
suggested solutions for the community to help poverty can be useful, but they may take a while until
the problem is solved. On the other hand, the four solutions for the government to help poverty can
be done in a short time, but they are expensive. Most of the solutions given need a long period of
time till the result can be visible and may cost a lot of money, so we will try to choose the one with
the shortest time period and has an affordable budget. The best Solution is supporting charitable
societies with financial sums to enable more significant assistance. This Solution can help the people
in need faster since it can be completed in three years and the result will be shown in a short period
of time. The charitable societies know the target and have experience in this field which means they
can reach the people in need quicker.
STEP V – Take Action
We should start taking serious actions to reduce poverty. The first action we recommended is
supporting charitable societies with financial sums to enable more significant assistance. This action
can be done in a short time and since charitable societies have experience it will be easier to reach
the people in need. The second action that can help with poverty is educating the community not to
allow early marriage and childbearing before the sound financial condition becomes available. If we
help educate the people to have financial security before marriage and having kids it will lead to
break the cycle and raise a new generation that has a higher education level. Charities should start
with school to raise the awareness of how to be financially stable before marriage. The third action is
to donate money to poor people or charities. This action can be done by charities which can help the
poor people immediately. Hopefully these actions can reduce poverty and help the people in need.

Closure: Poverty is a big issue faced by many people and it needs attention to solve it. The harm that
poverty creates threatens many people across many nations; it affects their livelihood of a peaceful and
comfortable life. As such, people should work together to find solutions that can aid in reducing the problem
of poverty. Lastly, we should as a community work hand in hand to raise awareness on poverty and how to
combat it to reduce it worldwide.
