Introduction:
When children transition into adolescents, they begin to form their own habits and style
of communication. As a result, many parents find themselves having trouble understanding their
children as they grow into individuals because of a clash between habits of communication.
Making it common for teenagers to feel misunderstood by their parents. With the current reliance
of cell phones and technology, this has only furthered the bridge for parents and their children.
Kids and teens are increasingly spending more time online and minimizing the amount of time
spent getting to know their parents. Furthermore, there’s significantly less self-disclosure
between families which negatively impact the quality of communication and the relationship
overall. The same idea that less getting to know each other which leads to less self-disclosure can
be detrimental to relationship can also be applied to a relationship between a student and
professor/teacher. In this circumstance, the disconnect between a student and a teacher can make
the educational experience more difficult for both parties. In the same way that teenagers give
their parents headaches because hormonal teens make everything hard than it needs to be. There
is a lack of self-disclosure between parents and their children because children are distracted by
technology and because children tend to feel misunderstood by their parents. While in a
relationship between a student and professor, the lack of self-disclosure creates significant
miscommunication creating challenging endeavors along their professional relationship.
Definition and Analysis Of the problem:
● Effective communication with parents and teachers would all include the skill of
listening respectfully, trying to understand where they are coming from, and speaking
clearly.
● As for teacher and student communication, at times it feels more restricted as they are
in a more professional setting.

Adolescence is a stage where teenagers need more interaction with their parents and
teachers. They develop psychological and physical needs that require support from their
surroundings. Self-disclosure helps adolescents reach important developmental stages throughout
puberty (Vijayakumar & Pfeifer, 2020). However, there is a lack of self-disclosure between parents
and their children. Teenagers are distracted by technology and tend to feel misunderstood by their
parents. While in a relationship between a student and professor, the lack of self-disclosure creates
significant miscommunication creating challenging endeavors in their professional relationship.
Parents must monitor their children’s time on phones and apps to prevent them from
becoming addicted. Social networking sites (SNS) are important, and teenagers are more likely
than ever to disclose personal information online (Vijayakumar & Pfeifer, 2020). They should also
use social media to connect with kids, for example, by calling and chatting on WhatsApp. Parents
should also be concerned about their children’s mental, academic, emotional, and personal wellbeing. They also need to become more open-minded with the newer generations and discuss issues
affecting their lives and how to prevent them. When parents open up, they allow their children to
disclose themselves. Professors need to reach out more and create a space to communicate and
connect personally with teenagers. Instead of focusing on classwork alone, they should try to
understand the personal lives of their learners and how they may help them to overcome life
challenges. Professors should also encourage discussions among learners. Many teenagers only
need to talk about their personal life if they are urged or motivated.
Both parents and their children in the relationship need to improve their ability to listen to one
another for communication to be successful. It is possible to increase communication and your
ability to effectively listen by engaging in activities such as maintaining eye contact, trying to
comprehend the other person’s perspective, and asking questions (EDU Tribe). Being courteous
is another strategy that might help improve communication. When there is a disagreement
between parents and their children, it is essential for both parties to maintain a healthy level of

to maintain a calm tone of voice and avoid terminology that could be considered cruel or
inappropriate. One of the most important things you can do to show respect for one another is to

another, it will be much simpler to find a solution to the issue that has been brought up. If
individuals would try to produce ideas rather than debate, it would help clear up a lot of the
confusion that has been causing difficulties, and it would also create answers to problems. One
more method to sidestep conversation is to focus on making your idea as clear as possible. It is
essential to successful communication that you take every precaution to ensure that your child or
parent cannot misunderstand whatever you say. Try to express things so that they may not be

Miscommunication between teachers and their students is a common problem that must

is going to be facilitated further if teachers offer a variety of channels for students to use to get in
touch with them. In addition to the office hours, it is helpful for professors to provide students
with a business email address and a business phone number that they may use to get in touch

checking these other methods of communication. Preparing to have a conversation with a student
or a professor and ensuring that you are familiar with the things you intend to discuss goes a very
long way. Even if it’s just practicing what you would say, it’s a smart method to get yourself
psychologically prepared for how you might communicate. Once more, demonstrating respect
can take you a very long way. If you, as a student, treat your professor with respect, there is a
greater chance that your professor will treat you with respect in return; this also works in the
opposite way as well. In addition to this, it is of the utmost importance to make certain that there
