These two methods have proven to be the best options for us. I presented my proposal to my preceptor, who was thrilled with my ideas. One thing that she advised me on is that I need to incorporate more data from previous surveys that were conducted in the organization. When it comes to communication, we all communicate differently. There are four communication styles: assertive, passive, aggressive, and passive-aggressive. Palmer states, “But who we are also shapes how we communicate. Just like no two people are exactly the same, everyone has their own unique communication style” (Palmer, 2023). My preceptor’s communication skill is assertive. Assertive communication essentially is where you stand up for what you believe in but take the welfare of others into account. Something I have noticed about my preceptor’s communication is the speed at which I get a response. When setting up for my internship, I sometimes had to resend her an email due to waiting for a response for around five days. Since I started, communication via email has gotten better. Since she is the director of HR, I have noticed that she has many emails and people coming to see her and gets distracted easily. My communication style with other stakeholders is like that with my preceptor. Since I am on-site only 1-2 days a week, the best way to communicate is through e-mail. Many of them work from home some days, which tends to be the days I am there. I interact and have face-to-face meetings with stakeholders like the administrator, CFO, COO, and director of HR (my preceptor). Sometimes, you must change your communication style with specific departments, and we must become more open to that.
