Topic Overview
Diversity in Health Care Presentations
As we examine health disparities, it is important to recognize the social, political, and economic
implications among communities. This project will focus our learning on specific risk factors
including health disparities, economic status, determinants of health, poverty, access to quality
healthcare services, and the types of providers who typically service these communities to
better understand the complex nature health disparities present. Although health disparities
present in all of the communities we will review, it is imperative to also address the health
overall health status gap.
Instructions
For this project, each student will select a specific community population discussed on Weeks 6
-12 THIS IS THE TOPIC (Health Disparities in Urban Communities). The student will develop a
five minute (minimum) to ten minute (maximum) presentation. This presentation must include
the development of a voice over PowerPoint presented in a video recording (WRITE ME A SRIPT
SO I CAN DO THE VOICEOVER, THANK YOU). The goal is to be creative yet engaging for the
audience while effectively sharing the information gathered.
The following criteria should be addressed in your presentation:

Identifying disparities that present and explaining why these exist

Common Health Issues

Specific factors that contribute to these health issues

Identifying solutions for improvement
Comparing the health status and life expectancy of your population through a significant
period of time

Has the health status and life expectancies improved or declined? What are the
reasons?
List and explain potential solutions that may positively impact the goal of closing the
health status gap for your community

▪
Determine key elements of an effective diversity plan that can be implemented
in clinical practice that supports diversity and inclusion for a positive climate and
environment. (Chapter 14 – Making it Happen and Sustaining it)
Creation of 3 questions to present to your classmates that will encourage additional
research to support their findings (questions should be included on the last slide of the
presentation)
APA citations and references (7th Edition) must be included with the use of scholarly references,
peer reviewed journal articles and reliable websites to gather your findings. The textbook
(Rose, 2021) can be used as a guide but not a reference in your research.
