Plagiarism Writing
Summary
1. Plagiarism occurs if you use somebody else’s work in an assignment or exam answer but
fail to state where you got the material from. You need to be also very careful about the
amount of words you are using from somebody else’s work.
2. It can happen in any type of assessment where you are given the questions or tasks in
advance.
3. If another student uses your work in his/her answer(s), both you and he/she will be
punished when caught.
4. Punishments for committing plagiarism can be very severe.
Details
Plagiarism is a form of cheating in which students use the work of others and present it as their
own. It may include all or any one of the following –
1. Copy extensively from the work of others (from sources such as books, magazines,
journal, websites etc.) and submit the work as your own.
2. Copy another students’ work and submit it for assessment under your own name.
3. Allow another student to copy your work and then submit it for assessment under their
own name.
What happens if you get caught?
The examining body of CBFS may punish offending students in any manner that they deem fit.
Typical punishments may range from reduction in grades, making students re-sit modules and
even failing students on a module or an entire award. The college considers this form of cheating
as a serious offence. Therefore, be forewarned!

Case study – The tour guy
Ahmed works as a tour guy at one of the famous companies in Oman Desert Tour. He usually
takes his tourists to some good attractions in Oman. He usually takes them for a week or so.
In one of his tours, he was having some financial problems. He borrowed some money from
one of his colleagues two years ago and promised to get the money back the week before this
journey started. However, he could not because of his other financial commitments. His
colleague kept knocking on his head and threatened him to report the report the incident to
their boss.
On that excursion, he took his tourist to A’Sharqiya Sand dune in Bidiya for two days
camping. He was very annoyed throughout the journey. One of his tourists asked him for
advice to set up her tent while he was laying down worried. He did not pay her any attention
and asked her to seek advice from her friends who already set their tents by only pointing at
them without saying a word. The tourist was very angry with his reaction. The next day, the
same tourist was complaining about the provided food that was very salty and she was
diabatic. Unfortunately, he did not pay her any attention again and then she was fully upset
and reported the incident to Ahmed’s boss once they were back from that trip.
