The online tutorial will ask you to type in answers into textboxes online. You do not need to do
this. I am only interested in having you review the content/lesson.
STEP 2: Locate a job posting
Find a job posting for a role that you’re interested in applying for (and that you feel is something
you are reasonably qualified for). Some options to find postings are: Indeed.com, workbc.ca,
monster.ca – you are welcome to apply to jobs in any country of the world, but the job posting
needs to be in English. Save a copy of the job posting (either as a PDF document, or copy/paste
the contents into a Word document).
STEP 3: Complete this section based on the job posting.
Please use complete sentences (NOT bullet-point form):

explain how each skill transfers between where you have used

current job requirements.
PART 2: Write a custom cover letter OR LinkedIn Profile
After watching the Module 12 interactive lesson on cover letters and LinkedIn profiles, use the
information that you’ve developed in this worksheet to help you write a cover letter or to create a
LinkedIn profile to help you apply for the job posting that you found.
I am choosing the following option:
Option 1: Cover Letter
Option 2: LinkedIn Profile –

success…
HOW WILL I BE
ASSESSED?
The maximum score that can be earned is 10 points, as follows*:
8 – 10 points [A]: The responses to each question in the worksheet are
insightful with transferable skills and evidence of reflection in identifying
some potential ways your developing skills could be strengthened. The
Cover Letter is very well written overall and demonstrates overall
understanding of the concepts identified in our course. In particular, good
research ensures it passes the McDonald’s test, error- free, and is tailored
to the position.
OR the LinkedIn profile is well done with complete sections that
demonstrate time and thought has been invested in ensuring it is

2
professionally formatted and error free. The profile/ about content is
clearly aligned with the student’ s career interests, education and skills and
has exceptional depth/ detail to showcase relevant
skills/ abilities/ experiences.
6.8 – 7.9 [B]: The responses to each question in the worksheet are
adequate, though more detail could have been added to provide more
insight and to showcase greater connection to experiences. Notably, there
could be more detail around how to enhance any current areas to be
strengthened. Some added reflection in general into where skills were
gained/ showcased or will directly apply to the current role would have
added strength. The Cover Letter is well written overall and demonstrates
a general understanding of the concepts identified in our course. While it
does pass the McDonald’ s test, the specificity is weak and could relatively
easily be transferred to any employer in a similar industry (e.g. a
competitor) . OR for the LinkedIn profile, the sections that are completed
provide good information, though it isn’t entirely clear to as to what
specific type of industry the student is interested in. There is some basic
depth/ detail to showcase skills/ abilities/ experiences and generally the
formatting is okay.
5.6 – 6.7 points [C] : A rudimentary level of understanding of what
employability skills and transferability skills are presented. Examples may
be included, though are not clearly connected or particularly valid. The
Cover Letter exhibits several composition issues that make it challenging
to understand and/ or follow. There are multiple grammar and spelling
mistakes and little thought to the professional formatting. It does not pass
the McDonald’ s and could be applied to essentially any organization with a
similar position. OR For the LinkedIn profile, few sections are completed,
or if they are there is limited information and a lack of depth or
explanation to really showcase the student’ s skills/ abilities.
0 – 5.5 points: Avoid this. Aim for at least a C on this assignment. If you
invest the time and energy into this assignment then you will do well!
