CO 101: The World of Communication, Fall 2022FTV – Assignment 5
When pitching a new TV series, it helps to research potential TV networks/cable
channels/streaming platforms that you could design your series to appeal to.
For this assignment, you will research a potential network, cable channel or streaming platform
and discuss how a potential TV series adaptation of Stephen King’s latest novel, “Fairy Tale,”
might fit that media channel’s audience, based on its current films or shows. You can read more
about the book to get a sense of its genre and story at King’s website:

First, select one of the following media channels to use for your pitch:
A. NBC (a broadcast network)
B. FX (a cable channel)—note this is different from the Fox broadcast network and the Fox
News cable channel
C. Netflix (a streaming platform)
Second, write a short essay (150-200 words) in which you discuss the following, based on the
media channel you have selected for your TV series adaptation of “Fairy Tale”:
1) Some popular shows already on that media channel and why your TV series adaptation
might appeal to that media channel’s audience.
2) The level of violence and adult language allowed on that media channel.
3) How you would adjust the level of violence or sexuality in your TV series to fit that
media channel’s standards for violence.
You will obviously need to do some online research to find some information about the book
and the media channel’s popular shows. Make sure to include an informal citation (“according
to …,” as you will do in the JO unit) when you cite your findings.
Use full sentences, proper grammar, and a formal tone (no colloquial language, no
I/me/my/our/your, etc.). Use only .doc or .docx; no .pdf, GDocs or .pages.
