This week we are introduced to both genetics and genomics in healthcare. As you complete the readings for this week, consider both the risks and benefits of using both genetics and genomics in caring for patients. What are three risks and three benefits? What safeguards would you suggest to ensure that the benefits of using genetics and genomics in healthcare outweigh the risks?

Antibiotic resistance has exponentially increased in the last two decades and this is widely contributed to the liberal prescriptions of antibiotics for various conditions, even when medically unnecessary. Even though antibiotics are some of the most effective medications for treatment of infectious diseases, the over prescription of them leads to an accelerated rate of resistance. It is also interesting that conditions such as C Diff, with overt symptoms such as diarrhea, are treated with high dose and various antibiotics that have the potential to compound the already present issue. Please review the following article and share your experience with the use of antibiotics as treatment and potential consequences for future patient care.
