Extended Paper B is on the general subject of society and will use at least two “primary readings” that I have assigned here in “Kinder Houston Area Survey” should do no additional research.

You should prepare for the essay by thinking about narrowing your topic down considerably and consider writing about some topic that you are very familiar with and can provide interesting and useful information about.  As you think about the subject, re-read Amy Guptill’s chapter on

the thesis statement. (Links to an external site.)

The academic essay should consist of a specific title, a clear introduction, including a specific thesis, as many body paragraphs as necessary (not necessarily 3), and a conclusion. You might want to aim for a seven, eight, or nine-paragraph essay. The essay should aim for unity, coherence, development using concrete examples, and appropriate use of edited American English. The title should be specific to the subject of the paper. Not “Extended Paper B.” Not “Society.”  Instead “A Positive Factor in Houstonian Society” or “My Experience with Other Ethnicities other than My Own” or something else very specific.
