Final Paper
Topic: For your final paper, you may analyze any work of fiction (short story, poem, novel, or play), using support from outside sources. You are welcome to write about a story or poem that we have read together as a class, but you must choose a work that you have not previously analyzed this semester. You may also choose to focus your final paper on an author or poet, but you still must include an element of literary analysis. In other words, if you decide to research and write about an author, you should work to show the connection between the author’s life and their work; examine how the author’s fiction or poetry was inspired by his or her life experiences. You must submit your final paper topic via Blackboard by 11:59pm on Wednesday, 7/18. Research tips: Once you decide upon a topic, you should begin looking for outside sources on the UA-PTC online database. Consider researching the author of your chosen work, as you may end up incorporating that biographical information into your final paper. Also be sure to search for literary criticisms that address your chosen work. (If you need some extra help navigating the online databases, please check out the lecture notes on this topic located in the Unit Eight folder!) You will be asked to submit an annotated bibliography that proves your chosen sources are valuable to the composition of your final paper (due on Sunday, 7/22). Requirements for Final Paper: 1) Final paper must be at least 1,000 words 2) MLA format required 3) Must have at least three outside sources (from the database) 4) Plagiarism must be avoided completely 5) Final paper must include a Works Cited page, complete with citations for all three outside sources AND your chosen primary source Check the Unit Eight lecture notes for help on writing your thesis statement and organizing your paper.
