Finishing a written outline (bullet point format) for a workshop on Communications

My part for the written outline consists of the important talking points (that I’ve extracted from the youtube video thus far) that I will need since I will be presenting the same topic but going more into depth on What communication is as well as talking more about the different models of communications. This is key because eventually when I do present this workshop, I need to have enough content to speak about this topic for 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Here is the link for the youtube workshop video:

COMM198 – Youtube Workshop video

Here is a breakdown of important talking points that I need paraphrased and included in the bullet point format outline: (NOTE: there is also a timestamp of each of these in the youtube video but I recommend just watching the video all the way through because sometimes the timestamp is not 100% spot on and accurate.

1. What is Communication?

2. Linear Model

3. Psychological Noise

4. Sociological Noise

5. Interactional Model

6. Field of Experience

7. Interaction Interactional Model?

8. Example of a Transactional Model

9. “The College Experience”

10. Kahoot activity 1? Concept of the Transactional Model

11. Kahoot activity 2? Interpersonal Communication is represented best by which communication model.

NOTE: simple breakdown here:

1. please create a microsoft word doc,

2. copy/paste my part of my written bullet point format outline

3. either throughout watching the youtube workshop video or after finishing the whole youtube vid, please make sure to add all the paraphrased talking points (after my written part) in the same bullet point format.

4. for the kahoot activities – you can look at what questions are being asked in them and you can just paraphrase them and make them different and unique as well.

5. I’m not sure how to calculate word count but I would recommend 1000-2000 words (or your recommendation of how much written content would be enough to speak at a slow pace for 45 minutes to 1 hour.)

6. please keep me updated as the last tutor wasted 3 days of very critical and crucial time that I did not have to spare on having to get this assignment done. thank you for your understanding in advance.

LAST IMPORTANT PART: Here is my written part of the bullet point outline including talking points that I’ve extracted thus far..

COMM198 – workshop 1 (paraphrase all these talking points + add some extra)

Topic: Introduction to What is Communication? And what are the several Models of Communication?

Outline:

Beginning with a brief introduction and explanation of how communication is the center focus as a comm major and is the key part to what we are learning about.

Transition to how interpersonal communication will be a main part of the workshop.

Explain that before we get to that point – we will go over the foundations first in order to help us gain a better understanding of what we will be learning about in the workshop.

Starting off with introducing the question of 1. What is communication? And explaining that we will start with a pre-work activity where the audience will then click a link that will bring them to a pre-work activity google survey where they can enter their answer in the box of what they think communication means before we proceed further and discuss more about communication etc.

They could answer with guided questions like:

What does communication look like

What does communication sound like

  • What does communication feel like
  • Explain that after the audience completes the pre-activity survey, we will circle back to their answers at the end of the presentation where at that point, we’ve learned a lot more about communication.
  • Begin to transition and start explaining how one of the main aspects of Communication is that it is a social process where people are able to interpret and co-create meaning in our environment with each other as well as communication being a dynamic and changing process the involves the interactions between people and examples of this can be face-to-face, online, and it can also mean messages that people can extract meaning and information from…
  • Transition to explaining to the audience how there are several different models for Communication that we can look at visually to help us gain a better understanding of what happens when communicating with one another.
  • Transition to another workshop activity where the audience can take a guess at how many different models there are in communication.

  • Example:
  • are there 8, 11, or 3.

The audience will then share their answer in the zoom chat box of whether they think there are 8, 11, or 3 communication models.

  • Transition and explain that there are 3 communication models and if they put a 3 in the zoom chat box, they were correct.
  • Transition to explaining the three models of communication to the audience:
  • Explain that there are 3 main models to communication and ways that we communicate with each other.
  • 1. COMM as an action – Linear Model
  • 2. COMM as an interaction – Interaction Model
  • 3. COMM as a transaction – Transactional Model
  • Transition to begin explaining the 1st model of communication (Linear Model)
  • Explain to the audience how we can see that the Linear Model simply follows a straightforward direction of communication.

  • Transition to how the model looks:
  • Example:

  • Sender + Source —> Message —> Target + Receiver
  • The significance of this is that the source/sender of the message sends a message through means of a channel
  • Also, the pathway of the message itself can be sent to the target + receiver to get the message.

  • Another key part to this communication model is that it only involves a sender and receiver.
  • Example of this:

  • I am the sender
  • The message is the information about communication as well as communication models
  • That message goes through this channel which is this zoom workshop
  • Then, you as the audience are the target + receiver/recipients
  • Transition, however – note to the audience that communication is just not that simple because you have to take into account/consider that there are distractions as well as noise that can occur during communication.

  • Transition to another activity where the audience can take a guess at how many types of noise do they think there is when it comes to communication.
  • Options are 7, 10, and 3.
