Compare the Scope of Practice

The scope of practice that family nurse practitioners possess enables them to offer healthcare services to families and communities, including patient assessment, evaluation, diagnoses, and treatment, with a focus on health promotion and preventative measures (Melo et al., 2023). In addition, family nurse practitioners can provide care in various settings, such as urgent care facilities and outpatient clinics (Melo et al., 2023). According to Melo et al. (2023) family nurse practitioners’ scope encompasses a wide range of age groups and demographics, and they are tasked with managing, assessing, diagnosing, and providing education, among other necessary procedures such as suturing, incision, and drainage, cervical screenings, family planning techniques, and other disease screenings (Melo et al., 2023). While FNPs provide treatment for an even younger population, the AGACNP AND AGPCNP concentrate on adult and geriatric care; however, the scope of practice of AGACNPs and AGPCNPs permits them to treat patients who are older than 18 years of age by performing tasks such as patient assessment, diagnosis, and management using the necessary interventions (Henson et al., 2023). Moreover, the primary distinction between the two groups is that, although AGPCNPs concentrate on long-term care, which supports quality of life maintenance and health promotion, AGACNPS primarily provides care in acute cases and emergency nursing (Henson et al., 2023). Furthermore, AGACNPS are most likely found in ICUs and emergency departments, while AGPCNPs are more likely to be in nursing homes and clinics, especially public health clinics (Stanik-Hutt, 2023).

The prerequisites for family nurse practitioners to get recognized as registered nurses are first to obtain a bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) and pass the National Council Licensure Examination [for] Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) (FBON, 2024). Following registration as a registered nurse, the professional must obtain a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), and certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), with a focus on family nurse practice; only then may the professional apply for a FNP license (FBON, 2024). Furthermore, similar to FNPs, AGACNPs and AGPCNPs must also earn their BSN, pass the NCLEX-RN examination to become certified as registered nurses, and then apply for an MSN or DNP with AGACNP or AGPCNP as their area of specialization and obtain certification before requesting an AGACNP or AGPCNP license (FBON, 2024).

According to the Florida Board of Nursing (2024) the Florida statutes state that all registered nurses with advanced practice privileges in Florida are required by law to hold an active Florida registered nursing license; if this license is not available, they may still be able to practice by having an active multistate registered nurse license.
