Subject: Integrating Virtual Reality in New Product Engineering Hires
I am writing because while researching a new product we are designing, I encountered an article
emphasizing the need to employ virtual reality in training new engineers. According to the
authors of that article adopting new teaching methods such as virtual reality and learning factors
could complement knowledge from modular causes. You may wonder about the article’s
relevance to our company; the answer is compelling. The authors realized that basic training is a
problem for engineering, especially with emerging technologies which is a problem we have
been having leading to low retention. The article “Virtual Reality-Based Engineering Education
to Enhance Manufacturing Sustainability in Industry 4.0” was published on March 11, 2019, by
Bashir et al.
As the lead engineer in our department, you are privy to the fact that customer demands have
changed, fueled by rapidly advancing technology. The result is that young graduating engineers
need to prepare to deal with such industrial complexities. It has become impossible for them to
transfer training to work leading to high turnover. The article proposes that firms can use virtual
reality and learning factories to conduct informative simulated learning for fresh hires. The
proposition aligns with our practice of having a training program for new engineers which will
also reduce our hiring budget. It is also worth considering that in our last budget meeting, you
proposed a similar plan of action yet to be implemented. The additional training will be effective

in preparing our engineers to appreciate and dive into the industry 4.0 reconfigurable
manufacturing systems.
I propose that we attempt the strategy with a small group of new engineers to gauge the
effectiveness of the proposed teaching design. It would also be essential to consider having a
similar retraining program for senior engineers to ensure that the whole lot is on board.
