SHMS Leadership Article Comparison Paper

WGB 612 LEADERSHIP ARTICLE COMPARISON PAPERLeadership is a complex subject with many complementary as well as potentially conflicting aspects. This
first paper asks you to examine your current view of leadership based on three thought-provoking
readings from different perspectives:
• Managing Oneself by Peter Drucker
• What Every Leader Needs to Know About Followers by Barbara Kellerman
• Managing Authenticity by R. Goffee
PAPER STRUCTURE
This paper should be no less than 5 pages and no longer than 7 pages, not including a cover page or
references page. Your paper should show the following four sections:
Section 1: Managing Oneself
Section 2: Understanding Followers
Section 3: Managing Authenticity
Section 4: Conclusions on Leadership
In sections 1-3 for each author you should:
• Highlight 4-5 key points the author is making about leadership
• Highlight 2-3 insights you gleaned from the articles
• Explain how they apply to your perspective on leadership or experience as a leader
• Highlight areas where the concepts either reflect or differ from your approach or experience
When addressing where your views differ from an article, explain why. For example, is there an
assumption, value, or premise you disagree with? Do you disagree with how the author applies it? Do you
disagree with how it fits with your personality? etc.
Conclusions Section
Having read the three articles explain:
• In what ways do they complement each other as a foundation for leadership?
• In what way are these three different perspectives potentially in conflict or pose dilemmas
regarding leadership?
• How your view of leadership has started to change if at all
